Disability Sport & Recreation Festival

Disability Sport & Recreation FestivalInternational Day of People with Disability took place on Wednesday 3 December, and to celebrate we hosted a stall at the Disability Sport & Recreation Festival.

More than 30 exhibitors from disability, sport and recreation organisations came together to showcase a range of inclusive and accessible programs. Throughout the day thousands of people with disabilities, students, local office workers and the general public joined in with the celebrations at Federation Square.

On the main stage attendees were treated a host of sporting demonstrations, many of which they could get involved with and try out themselves.

Independence means freedom to be me

At the Independence Australia stall we asked visitors - what does independence mean to you? We then placed their responses across the marquee to create an independence wall.

With more than 50 people taking part it was wonderful to create such a big conversation about the meaning of independence. It really was inspiring to see so many diverse answers. And of course there was also the infamous corporate wheelchair challenge which saw a number teams from organisations across Victoria battle it out for the golden basketball.

All the pictures from the day are now up on Facebook, so be sure to check them out and see what everyone had to say. Feel free to share the pictures to keep the conversation going!
