Daddo Charity Golf Day celebrates 10th anniversary

Daddo Charity Golf Day celebrates 10th anniversaryOn Friday 21 November the 2014 Daddo Charity Golf Day took place at the stunning Moonah Links Resort on the Mornington Peninsula.

A record breaking 196 golfers registered to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Independence Australia fundraiser, whilst the whole Daddo family made a surprise visit to mark the occasion.

Captain Independence welcomed players on arrival at the club house and handed out show bags which were overflowing with treats. Guests then enjoyed a light lunch before heading out on course for the 12 o'clock shotgun start.

Cloudy skies soon cleared to make way for a beautiful day on both the Legends and Open courses. Competitions for the longest drive and nearest the pin added some extra excitement to the day and players also had the opportunity to test out Mizuno's newest drivers. Wine tasting with Bittern Estate as well as cookies from Mrs Fields and refreshments awaited players as they made their way round the courses.

At the end of the day teams came together at the club house for a barbeque and the much talked about monster raffle, where more than $16,000 worth of donated prizes were up for grabs. Raffle ticket sales raised an impressive $10,500 whilst a number of auction items brought in an additional $3,000.

Tim McCallum singsTo bring the day to a close Tim McCallum, a good friend of Independence Australia and the Daddo family, made a surprise performance. Despite a life changing spinal cord injury at 18 years old, Tim has been able to pursue his main passion in life, singing. Tim sang The Impossible Dream to rapturous applause from the audience; there were even a few teary eyes. A wonderful golf themed cake was then brought out mark the occasion.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the event and as a thank you to the Daddo family for their continued support, we have produced a Daddo Charity Golf Day book. Filled with some fantastic photographs from across the years the book can be yours, simply click here to place your order.

This year the Daddo Charity Golf Day raised a record $54,400 net which is truly phenomenal. The funds raised will be used to support programmes such as Independence Australia's psychology and counselling program, which currently receives no government funding. Assisting people to deal with the trauma of a newly acquired disability, this specialised service is just one of many ways Independence Australia supports those with a physical disability to live independent lives.
