Independence Australia promotes active inclusion at Disability Sport and Recreation Festival

A team of three Independence Australia representatives from across the organisation recently exhibited at the 2016 Disability Sport and Recreation festival (DSR) held on Friday 2nd December at Crown Riverwalk.

Arriving shortly before 10am the Independence Australia team were welcomed to a buzz of Crown Riverwalk activity as the weather begun to heat up for a fantastic day.

Each year, the Victorian DSR festival welcomes thousands of people of all abilities who come along to engage in and learn about what their local community has to offer in the way of active sport and recreation.

Independence means freedom and fun

At the Independence Australia stand, our team were asking passers-by to let us know what Independence means to them by writing their answer on coloured card and posing for a quick photo. Some of our answers included; ‘freedom to do what I want’ and ‘to be in control of my own life.’

This year’s event, as in past years was held to coincide with International Day of People with Disability which falls on December 3rd.
