Independence Australia has four consumer-facing business divisions operating within the disability, community and aged care sector.
Together they’re providing you with the best in personal care services, improving quality of life with healthcare products and mobility aids, and kick-starting your career with industry training.
Our team of highly skilled professionals with broad experience across the disability and community sectors, manage a range of services dedicated to supporting people with disabilities so they can retain and regain their independence. These include in-home support, counselling, case management, recreation, accommodation and more.
We’re one of the largest providers of in-home support in Victoria. Our qualified disability support workers provide consumers with a high standard of support to enable them to lead independent lives in their own homes. The main support provided focuses on daily living activities which includes personal hygiene, grooming and assistance with meals. It can also include supporting consumers to access the community for work or recreational purposes.
Our Lead Support Worker program provides support workers out in the field with an important link to our office, while also acting as a mentor to new and existing staff. So if you’re a support worker and you have any issues regarding your role or roster, they’re your first point of contact. As a consumer, you benefit from having only one contact to interact with and fewer changes in carers.
We know homelessness is a major issue for people with disabilities, especially those in need of accessible rental accommodation. In response, we work proactively to address housing issues with an understanding that securing accommodation can enable someone with a disability to live in a more stable environment.
Our case managers work in close partnership with people who have a disability and their families to address their personal goals and aspirations.
While we also provide home-based support to several hundred veterans and their widows and widowers across Victoria. This can include domestic assistance, personal care, respite and home or garden maintenance. Many of these consumers are elderly and the provision of this service enables us to grow our understanding of the unique needs and challenges of the aged-care sector.

Starting out of a cupboard in ward 17 of the Austin Hospital in 1959, we began by providing incontinence products to patients with a spinal cord injury. Today we’re a national business distributing over 10,000 personal healthcare products and mobility aids and equipment to people with disabilities and the elderly including their carers, nurses or prescribers.
We’ve come a long way since 1959:
As a social enterprise, the money we make is invested back into our social ventures, these being the vital services we provide to people with disabilities. By shopping with us, you’re shopping for a good cause.
Our Customer Service Team takes pride in being able to work with each and every customer to find solutions for their individual and often complex needs. Most orders are dispatched and delivered on the same day in metropolitan areas. Where needed, we even have a nurse available to offer free clinical and product advice to customers for incontinence products.
At Springvale in Melbourne’s south east, our customers can also visit our large Mobility Aids Australia showroom. Specialising in mobility aids and electric scooters for over 30 years, we stock over 3,000 products including lift chairs, wheelchairs, walkers, electric beds and much more.
