Free Advice on Modifications and Maintenance

The Home Renovation Service will give free advice on modifications, renovations and maintenance to home owners who are elderly or who have a disability. They are located at the Archicentre in Hawthorn. Visit their site at www.archicentre.com.au

Independent Living Centre

The Independent Living Centre (ILC) has several publications on bathroom and kitchen design available for purchase. It has samples of household fittings in its showroom. Their showrooms at 705 Geelong Road, Brooklyn are open to the general public. Occupational Therapists and other staff are available to offer advice.

Australian Building Code 1998 & Australian Standards

Especially AS1428.1 1998 and AS 1428.2 1992:
Copies are available in the Independence Australia Library, and possibly in TAFE and public libraries. The Standards can be purchased from Standards Australia. These give basic access standards for public buildings. The Building Code of Australia relevant to access is also available in the Library .Other books on access design are also available.
